Emerging rapper Jer Colar shares his debut album, Main, an 11-track project that explores the youthful exuberance of the spring/summer season. The self-produced project that colar says has been in the works for almost 3 years is meant to capture the different moments of his life, the friendships that formed and memories created.

Production-wise, Jer Colar blends abstract, lofi, and experimental sounds into his repertoire while threading them with live skits featuring his real friends, reinforcing his reality on wax.
The project starts with “main(outro),” which serves as an introduction of some sort. colar employs a moody lofi backdrop with warm tones and punchy drums as his canvas. Lyrically, he doesn’t mince his words when he says “I open up when I open up, throw my fucking feelings out in this pit, know i’m dealing with some deadlines, but it’s a house party on a Friday” and continues to detail the ups and downs of life a she tries to find his footing. The next track, “noisemaker,” is an experimental cut with distorted basslines and sparse textures underpinned by expressive bars. Here, colar shares his thoughts on pretenders and the value of staying true to himself at all times. This is followed by “bdw,” which features CAËRUS and Chicho. The track, which was produced by CAËRUS and hamadani, has a classic Pro Era vibe with a crunchy drum break and retro jazz textures with extensive sound design. Here, the emcees take turns in showcasing their different lyrical styles, comprising no-holds-barred flows and stream-of-consciousness lyrics that highlight their personal experiences. The track also progresses the story as it takes place at the house party mentioned in the intro.
The next track, “new idea” is a concept piece about making moments, chasing goals and charting the unbeaten path.
“yuh, i be having new ideas, put them down cause i can’t keep ‘em up here

nah, no i can’t sit around here, can’t be on my ass can’t do it around here

saw pretty girls out here, but if you sound like Duff, the fuck from around here

i gotta clean out my ears from all the garbage stuff y’all putting out here.“

He sets the tone with those lyrics, reminding folks that he is always on a new wave.

The project continues with more unravelling that gives more light to colar’s story. “TRAVEL ON”  explores the never-ending struggle and experiences that reshape one’s trajectory. Over a brooding, distorted, bass-heavy beat, colar reviews some experiences and eternalizes his true state by way of taking accountability and standing on business.  The following track, “tired (z’s),” is a collaborative track featuring Almany, and produced by hamadani , where colar and Almany share their respective story about the eternal grind and lack of sleep in the modern world. The next two tracks, “i’m fine with that,” features GJOFA and “focusrite” features JayRK and Chicho give another side to the overarching story. The former is about emotional stability, inner peace and self-identity. colar wrestles with the thought of losing himself to another person but concludes that he is fine with the loss as long as it brings him peace. The latter is another lyrical showcase with different styles. The final track “finn of the start” helps close the project and sees colar in his element. He talks about some intimate and personal moments that reshape his life. From hitting rock bottom, faltering relationships and friendship to discovery. It sounds like a full-circle moment where jer colar truly finds himself, albeit with the aid of his friends and the memories they created, shared alongside the unplanned events.

Other notable tracks include the moody “deadlines,” where colar goes on the experimental tip with vocal effects, distorted textures, and punchy drums and “seventeen in awe,” which has a recurring sound motif that feels like the soundtrack of a video game’s final boss.
