Montreal‘s finest, an mc who goes by the name Full Course has been a fixture on the scene for a long minute. A thought provoking lyricist and vibrant live performer as well. I must admit,I have only heard a few songs from the man and when I heard he is planning to drop an EP I knew it was time for me to play catch up. While I do that, I would like to share his latest release with you all, the ironically titled track ‘Emptly L‘(get it, M-T-L?) where he touches a myriad of social, personal and political issues relating to the city.

This is definitely something to tune into. A solid cut if I do say so myself.

Empty L (read: M-T-L) paints a tragically vivid picture of Montreal over a rich and laid- back beat that allows his exceptional lyrical skill to take center stage as he delves deeper than the typical themes of dope-dealing and fine ladies, easily bouncing from the pitfalls of Montreal nightlife to language issues to Quebec nationalism.

“It sounds like a lot of bad, but it’s balanced – yes I talk about the bad parts of MTL, but it’s positive too because this is who we are. It’s what I’m leading the EP with because it’s the most poignant.”

Using such a high-profile American producer is a conscious move on his part to take his growth as an artist to the next level, as the goal of this album is to achieve further recognition outside of Canada. But like his name and the title of his first LP suggest, Full Course is someone who like to do things whole and right, one step at a time.
