DookDaGenius delivers his sophomore project I.A.T.I.A. (I AM THAT I AM) which is a mix of story telling, braggadocio bars with solid thumping soundscapes.

“Apple Watch” opens up the project and it starts with a mellow soulful sample and vocal intro that helps set the tone. DookDaGenius talks about his life and the various aspects ranging from his faith, his love life, rap music and the joys of fatherhood.

“Who I Am” is an unapologetic track that features King Wess. Bolstered by a cinematic and somewhat solemn soundscape, DookDaGenis details how he maneuvers through the craziness of the world. Lines “Many people falling off but things change for a reason/Can’t lose or get cornered off because you looking for reasons” sums up his go-getter mindset and he reminds us that he is not going to falter for no reason. On “Relax”, DookDaGenius takes time to savour every moment while reflecting on his journey thus far and he compares his past, present and future. Armed with his commanding vocal tone and unapologetic lyrics like “I certified my pedigree cos ain’t nobody telling me/Look, I do what I need, I do what I want/I’m feeding my fam, control where I stomp”. Dook once again reminds us that he is in full control of his destiny.

“Better Better” has a soulful and solemn summer-tinged vibe. Dook details the pros of taking chances, risks and stepping out of one’s comfort zone. Ultimately the moral of the story here is, even if you fail, you will learn and be better off from it. This is followed by the smooth mid-tempo cut titled “I Know You See It”. The track is bolstered by rich soulful textures and snapping drum grooves underpinned by Dook’s introspective songwriting that focuses on his daily endeavours and how he is focused on his business. Dook teams up with Prxscott on “Mind Over Matter”, a mellow R&B-tinged trap drum-laden track that sees Dook in his element as he reflects on the ones who got lost in the game and his own fortitude to withstand the hard times. “Diamonds” has a sombre and dreamy vibe accentuated by Dook’s heartfelt lyrics that dwell on blossoming love and the many pros and cons that come with building a relationship with the right person. “Fxck Being Secondary” makes use of a classic sample that hip-hop heads would recognize and it is bolstered by Dook’s commanding vocals and go-getter lyrics that bring listeners closer to his exquisite and luxurious lifestyle. He is joined by King Wess who adds his own perspective to the track and compliments Dook’s stance with his own.  This is followed by the moody “Our Time” that continues Dook’s vivid storytelling.

The project closes out with “Purple Shades” and “The Cycle” featuring Rasheed Jamal and Jamal Wess. The former is a soulful and reflective track that details Dook’s journey through life and his plans for the future while the latter is a bravado-driven track that is bolstered by solid hard-hitting lyricism from the emcees.

At just 11 songs and 35 minutes long, I.A.T.I.A. (I AM THAT I AM) , is as cohesive as they come and give listeners varied topics to pick from.
