Emerging songwriter/music producer Dmillyyy’s latest project is a 5-track EP entitled Cupid Pack. As the title suggests, it’s a love-themed project that talks about the different aspects of love, relationships, feelings, and the complexities of two individuals coming together.
The project starts with the downtempo “Thunderstruck” which opens up the emotional floodgates. Dmillyyy talks candidly about his attraction to a certain woman while maintaining his masculine frame. Deep down, he knows he is falling and pours adulation on her, reminding her of his true feelings. The mellow beat has an atmospheric and moody vibe, and is underpinned by a distinct melodic flow with engaging lyrics. The next song “Balance,” dives into the dynamics of relationships and how small cracks often lead to large gorges. Lines like “You gave me the key, you know you’re better with me/Ain’t trying to have you but it will bring both of us peace/This really happen with ease and now the pressure increase” show the gradual progression of the breakdown with Dmillyyy reflecting on how it was beyond his control. The beat has a blend of Afrobeats and Jersey club vibes with a moody aesthetic that fits the solemn theme of the song. This is followed by the intermission “Q.M. Interludio,” a modern reggaeton-infused beat with sublime textures and punchy drums underpinned by Latin melodic flavours.
The project shifts into a different territory with the last two tracks, the reflective “WYGD” and “Madness.” The former has sa urreal and ethereal production with downtempo drums and heavily tuned vocal runs, while the latter looks at the aftermath of a breakup and each party going their separate ways. Dmillyyy looks fondly at the past and comes to terms with his predicament and how he has moved on, even if the love still lingers.
Overall Cupid Pack, offers an interesting take on love from a different perspective. Dmillyyy is not afraid to bear his soul, show us his scars and be emotional about the situation but the icing on the cake has to be his honesty.
