Montreal-based rapper/songwriter Daniel Saad shares with us his new album It All Matters, a 15 track project that explores the ups and downs of a Godly man in modern society. He shows the several pitfalls that surround him and how he manages to manoeuvre around them while being authentic to his beliefs.
The project starts on a high note with “The Greatest”, an anthemic tune that details his path in life and regardless of how others might feel, he stands on business. With lines like “Kinda put X’s on me like I’m Malcolm/Man of obedience, giving respect to my ladies I’m calling ‘em madam” he shows his discipline and reverence for all things Godly. The next track “Better Than I Was” is a soulful and reflective tune comprising punchy trap drums and an anthemic horn arrangement. Here, Daniel talks about his flaws and shortcomings but he has faith in God and he promises not to fold. He is joined by Young Rose who adds his perspective to the track. Daniel teams up with S Burn on the uplifting track “Whole Lot Better” which sees the duo celebrating their wins meanwhile “The One Who Knows” pays homage to the one above and his choice to be different from the rest.
Daniel continues his quest to be his own man and at every turn, he reminds audiences of his faith and even though he participates in secular music activities, his heart is in the right place. On the upbeat “Different” featuring Melo, embodies the spirit of the outlier and in “Following God” he gets introspective about his spirituality and the events that try to test his faith. He switches it up on “In Amalfi” , a retro funk sample-driven tune featuring SeinsSucrer where he tells a tale of debauchery and the worldly temptations that are commonplace in this modern world and on “Montreal” he pays homage to the city of the same name alongside GNB. The aptly titled “Unapologetic” features DMAZ and sees both artists detailing their never-ending personal struggles while the previously released single “Searching” which which explores broken love and failed relationships. Over the soulful and sad backdrop, Daniel shares his experiences and reflects on the past with a somewhat hopeful perspective about his love life and if he would ever find that true love his soul years for. He is joined by vocalist Jessyka K who adds a soul-stirring melodic chorus to complete the track.
The project continues with “What I Leave Behind”, a heartfelt and reflective interlude that reminds Daniel that his work matters in the grand scheme of things. Singer/songwriter Pelo sets the tone with his rich vocal runs on “Walking In Peace” while Daniel finds solace and calm in his path. “Trying” is a showcase of lyricism from Daniel who is coming to terms with his roots and his city. The project closes with the triumphant “Blessed Forever” and the reflective “God’s Child” featuring Balkirat.
In the end, It All Matters, is a solid offering that gives audiences a profound look at the life of a young man whose religion plays a central role in his life. He doesn’t beat our heads with preachy subjects but rather gives his perspective and the experiences he goes through and lessons everyone can learn from.
