Emerging Compton, CA-based rapper/songwriter Cerdarious ‘s knack for penning heartfelt and relatable tracks is what makes him stand out from the rest. His previous releases have covered a wide range of topics from relationships, loss and aspirational themes and in his latest “Flooded” he brings it full circle. The track is bolstered by a solemn and warm soundscape comprising acoustic guitar licks and soft drums, over which he reminds us to always find strength within. It’s not all roses as Cerdarious quips “They don’t give you grace no more when you fuck up/Take your loss, move on, nigga shut up, turn it off” acknowledging that grace will not be given freely and sometimes you might not receive it but regardless, you need to keep growing. On another note, he speaks on the abundant talent who ignore their gift with the lines “who cares if you gifted when you lack discipline/Gota stand on your toes, show these lanes who they fucking with.” This might sound harsh but the truth is bitter, the world doesn’t care for your gifts if you refuse to nurture them. Finally, he looks at self-growth and relationships with “Not everyone can go so some relationships untethered/I’d rather hit some goals than think what if and then regret it” which underpins his maturity and discernment for when the time to move on comes.

Overall, “Flooded” is part bittersweet, sad and uplifting. Cerdarious blends the Yin and Yang of life but ultimately the message to take from it is to grow.
