Houston-born, Los Angeles-based Brice Blanco is an alternative genre-bending artist who brings elements of modern soul/ hip-hop with a unique touch. His latest release, “Cheap Thrills,” is a profound piece that explores soul-searching through uncertainties and fleeting escapism. Against Amarah‘s laid-back, guitar-driven backdrop featuring solemn pads and downtempo rhythms, Blanco looks inward as he searches for what seems like fleeting fulfillment while dealing with the loss of clarity amid indulgence and materialism. Armed with a laidback vocal tone and a world-weary cadence, he digs deep with lines like
“I hadn’t got to amen/Let’s say I’m not prepared
An ongoing convo that’s staying off the air
The uphill, the eyes/A day with lots of stairs/I’m weighing out the cheap thrills”
“Cheap Thrills” is taken from Brice Blanco’s forthcoming LP AFRO URF.
