wst cmplx is a Los Angeles-based music collective comprising 9 members from diverse musical backgrounds. The collective brings together vocalists and instrumentalists influenced by a host of genres, including jazz, R&B, funk, neo-soul, and hip-hop, all with a West Coast flair. Their latest release are these two songs “RIDE HOME” and “GO SOMEWHERE” which are taken from their album, Where The Light Begins.

The first track, “RIDE HOME,” is a psychedelic/soul-infused track that slowly evolves into a neo-soul/hip-hop sound at the tail end. The track begins with soft guitar licks and a rich female vocal lead and builds slowly into a hypnotic ensemble. From the downtempo groove with syncopated rhythms, breath-taking horn riffs, soft keys and ethereal pads to the sultry vocal accompaniment, listeners are taken on an aural ride filled with crests and troughs.

“GO SOMEWHERE” is a mellow neo-soul/jazz-infused record about love and escapism from the white noise of the world. The track builds slowly from soft tones, percussion, and layered vocal runs that rise to a crescendo on the chorus sections. The dynamic arrangement is the icing on the cake as each musical element gets to shine as the song progresses. The overall live feel is unmatched, throwing listeners right into the mix of the action as the tension and resolution between the vocalists and instruments play out seamlessly.
