As UK neo soul singer/songwriter Tia Gordon prepares for the release of her forthcoming EP, i asked the stars for this. x, she shares the second single “should I give it up” and its accompanying video. The mid-tempo jazz/neo soul-infused track finds her teaming up with three-time Grammy Award–winning producer Brasstracks, who laces her with layered pads, progressive soulful chords and triumphant horn-laden sections that rise to a crescendo. Here, Tia Gordon talks about the delicate topic of self-belief and life purpose as a creative. She questions the doubts and fears that sometimes distract her from reaching her true potential and the never-ending internal struggle alongside societal pressures and the urge to conform. Armed with a unique, honeyed vocal style that cuts through the mix, the singer delivers a sublime and alluring performance underpinned by heartfelt lyrics like “If I give this all up/I’d never step a foot inside a studio ever again/Do I call my bluff, am I being quick to judge/I just want to play to all the people at my shows/am I good at this?.”
The accompanying visual, directed by Purple Silk, visually depicts Tia Gordon’s mind as she grapples with the many versions of herself. Using engaging visual effects, vivid storyboarding and a running motif that underscores the theme of the song, viewers are given an intimate tour of what it feels like to be conflicted, confident, distracted and focused all at once.
Tia Gordon’s forthcoming EP i asked the stars for this. x, finds her collaborating with acclaimed producers and writers, including Grammy-nominated producer TAVE, Cox, Brasstracks, V-Ron, and long-time collaborators Pip Millet and Darryl Dodoo. She is also planning a headline tour later in 2026.
