Music producer Kev Da Khemist caught our ears with their latest release, “Crack Cocaine,” which is the precursor to the upcoming project, When It’s Dark. The single “Crack Cocaine” explores the political and geographical history of the potent drug known as Cocaine and its extremely addictive form known as Crack. Using dark, cinematic textures with downtempo drums and textures that evoke urgency, Kev Da Khemist gives listeners a thorough lesson on this drug that destroyed many black families from the 80s and henceforward. The track also includes vocal snippets from documentaries and a sample from Los Angeles hip-hop duo Coyote.
