Welcome to TWIB’s Weekly Top 10 Videos. This is a segment where we look at some exceptional visuals from various acts around the globe. The music video format has been around for decades, through the 90s and 2000s, and it has taken flight from multi-million dollar budget music videos to mid to low-budget videos with exceptional features. In this section, we will not discriminate but highlight some creative visuals that pop up on our radar.

Sam Wills – “Voicenotes”
Hastings-based singer, songwriter and musician Sam Wills is working on his forthcoming album, Speak , but in the interim, he unveils the visuals for the single “voicenotes.” The track is modern neo soul ballad that explores true yearning for that special someone and the only relief is by listening to their old voicenotes. Backed by warm keys and soft grooves, Wills grieves and pours his heart on wax as he hopes for his lover to return but til down, their voice keeps him pacified. The track’s visual style is moody and sad and uses simple performance shots, and blurry effects to capture Wills’ emotional pain.
Nate Smith x Josh Johnson – “Last Sight”.
“Last Sight” is a collaboration between Jazz drummer/composer Nate Smith and musician Josh Johnson. The result is a bouncy modern jazzhiphop/funk infused offering that comprises prevalent keys, dynamic drum grooves with warm synths that evoke nostalgia and a familiar feeling of bliss. The visuals blends visual effects, smooth transitions with short clips of the musician shopping for new instruments and rocking the drums.
NASTY C x Blxckie – “Leftie”
Super star South African rapper Nasty C has been making the rounds with his new album, FREE and now he returns with the visuals for the song “Leftie” featuring fellow rapper Blxckie. The track is a smooth mid-tempo banger with cinematic tetxures, sparse but punchy drums underpinned by Nasty C’s autotuned vocals delievered in a devil-may-care attitude. here, he details his not-so-glorious beginnings and his experiences that made him into what he is today. The visual style is pretty engaging and besides the usual performance shots, the camera shots, effects and use of 3-D effects adds an extra layer to the storyboarding that fully captures Nasty C’s world.
Northsidebenji – “Harder To Please”.
Canadian Trap&B artist Northsidebenji help close this week’s visual playlist with “Harder To Please.” The track sees the singer reflecting on his journey as a young man working through his emotions, growth and the weight of success. Over a solemn and atmospheric soundscape, the singer shares with audiences the things weighing on his chest and how he had to grow a thick skin in order to survive in this cold unforgiving world. The visual style blends performnce shots with scenery with a focus on his surrpoundings with set pieces.
