Dichotomy is a collaborative beat tape/remix project by San Diego-based Producer Tranzformer and London-based American Producer Big O. The 15 track body of work is a showcase of both producers’ musical style over the years and their latest sounds and also a couple of remixes of their previously released tracks.

As the title suggests, it’s all about two parts of the same lineage, 2 producers with similar styles coming together to create a diverse and cohesive project that lovers of hip-hop instrumentals would love. Big O sets the tone with the first cut, “Glass Butterfly,”  a bouncy tune laced with dreamy R&B textures and soft bassline to match. This is followed by Tranzformer’s “Cali” (Feat. Streets), who flips a classic soul sample into a modern off-kilter jam. The project continues with each producer showing off their beats one after another.  Big O brings the ruckus with the anthemic “Trade it All” while Tranzformer sparks our minds with the moody and plucky “Inspiration.” This is followed by the soul-stirring “The Right Way “ and choppy “Soul Good,“ both tracks do have similarities with the exception. being the choppy nature of the latter.

Together, the pair brings their A game, and each track pairing differs from the next as they push their musical boundaries with expertly crafted soundscapes. From the soothing “W. Century BLVD “ to the reflective “Gravy” or the retro-tinged  “Count on Me,” which evokes nostalgia, listeners have quite a lot to rock to and perhaps unpack. The previously released “Fed Up” featuring Fashawn and G-Rocka gets a brilliant Remix that brims with soulful tones and lofi aesthetics. The other tracks “Culmination” & “Run it Up” are two tracks on the album that both Tranzformer and Big O produced and created together, and as usual, they don’t miss. The retro boombap drums, excellent scratching by Decksterror and cinematic textures all come together while L.O.U. and P-Rawb deliver fiery and insightful bars. Rapper Benny Canales, aka 3D appears on “Run it Up” and does what he knows best by blessing us with a mix of bravado and conscious raps. The project closes out with 3 more instrumentals of the previous tracks and help bring the project to a healthy close.
