UK emcee Confz is making his way as a rising star in the UK rap scene and as he prepares to drop his debut album, he delivers the lead single “Lying To Myself”. The track has a punchy drum groove and moody textures with Gospel-tinged vocal samples that add a solid emotional depth to the record. Hee, Confz talks about his journey thus far and his aspirations as he jumps through different hurdles to reach his goals. Lines like “Sometimes I lie ’cause the truth is so awkward/If you ask how I’m doing I feel like it’s not important/Its only me out on this path that I’m walking/do I do it for the love, for the fame or the fortune/These are the questions that I ask? Will I make it to my goal before my mother has to pass” capture his deepest fears and how he copes with his daily struggles. Joining him on the track is Nix Northwest who also adds his 2 cents with profound lines like “I pray to a god, often don’t know what I am asking him for/Is it the- fame or the fortune or the face that I talk to in the mirror/ stuck on decisions, maybe I oughta take a little second to see how far that we came from our past transgressions got me and myself to blame, I see“.
Overall, “Lying To Myself” is pretty insightful, thought-provoking and relatable.
