Bay Area native Jay Kayze is a multi-talented artist who sings/raps and produces his own music. His latest effort titled “Over Love” is a nice blend of pop/R&B with a hip-hop swag and it details the pros and cons of falling deeply in love and the side effects. Over the lush guitar riffs, bright synths and bouncy drums, Jay delivers a soul-gripping performance ripe with candid and revealing lyrics that take listeners through the different stages of blossoming love and we get to see a form of evolution in his persona as time progresses. Using the concept of drugs and what it’s like to be strong out as a metaphor for being in a toxic relationship. And it moves quickly; as soon as we get invested in the couple’s dynamic, the song ends and urges us to ‘run it back’ so that we can catch that blend of radio-ready melodies once again.
The accompanying visuals fully taps into the theme as we see Jay in different stages of his progression and what he eventually became.
