Canadian artist of Cameroonian origin SUPER FREDDY is not new to us on TWIB and has been on our radar with more than a couple of singles. His latest venture titled  VENUS DANCING IN THE NIGHT SKY is a 4 track body of work that explores the dynamics of love and the emotions that come with the good and bad side of it.

The opening track “FEELINGS CHANGE” is an R&B/afrobeats-infused track made up of warm and soulful textures and a solid drum groove to boot while SUPER FREDDY shares a lovelorn tale of a man neck deep in love. The man pursues a lady whose feelings are not entirely reciprocated and the hurt just gets deeper as time goes on. The singer pours his heart with an easy-to-follow hook and a layered melodic performance ripe with solemn and heartwrenching lyrics like “I need consistency/This push and pull is messing with me”. Listeners can literally feel his pain through the speakers and we can only hope things pan out for the best. He sure still has hopes that she changes but that could just be wishful thinking.

“NDOLO” is a dreamy- cinematic guitar-driven love ballad that describes an undeniable love and attraction between 2 individuals and his willingness to do what it takes to keep that love waxing strong. SUPER FREDDY once again gives an engaging performance that blends the essence of Afropop with R&B sensibilities. His melodic range suffices as he delivers mantra-like runs that get the job done and keep listeners locked in. “Bankole” starts off with a soothing Rhodes riff, heavenly horns and a drum groove driven with shakers. Here, SUPER FREDDY flexes his bi-lingual ability switching effortlessly between French and English although the latter is used extensively. The adulation-filled track sees him heaping praises and sharing the adorable attributes of his lady

The final track “THIS LOVE” is a midtempo electro-dance infused jam made up of moody and ethereal textures and SUPER FREDDY employing whispered vocal runs to good effect. He keeps it simple with the harmonies and the relatable songwriting that talks about going the long haul for true love. Lyrics like “When I say you mean the world to me, I mean the universe twice over/If this ain’t right, I got faith to fight, gimme a final night and ama treat you right” cap things up and shows how far he is willing to go for this thing called love.

Overall VENUS DANCING IN THE NIGHT SKY, is a brilliant effort that cohesively threads the love theme from an eclectic artist’s perspective and delivers a soul-stirring and heartfelt vibe that listeners can easily latch on to.
