Unknown Prophets is a Twin Cities-based hip-hop group that released its debut album World Premier in 2000. Known for their knack for the good old boom-bap sound, the duo return to the forefront with their new single “Sunrise” and its accompanying visuals. The track starts off with a brooding and solemn string that slowly grows into a cinematic piece with haunting hums, and airy pads underpinned by punchy drums. The duo takes us back to genesis with introductory verses that give listeners an update on what they have been up to and what is next in store for the duo. Armed with smooth flows and vivid lyricism, the duo trade bars in tandem giving different perspectives and a thorough look at the state of hip-hop with a nuanced feel.

The visual is quite engaging and makes use of performance shots of the duo doing what they do best. The use of different camera angles and varying set pieces also adds to the natural feel of the video.

“Sunrise” is the first official single off of the groups upcoming full-length album EVOLVE set to drop on 11.11.22
