WIB stays looking through the inbox for the best of the best. We bookmark, save for later and stow away the gems out of the hella busy inbox to compile this list. Here are the artists that made the cut this week, which was an extremely competitive week!

Handbook of ROOTNOTE Collective recruits two familiar faces and frequent collaborators, Jetpack Jones and Tone Oliver for the release of a fan friendly freebie titled, A Day Ago. The smooth jam makes for a perfect sountrack for summer riding.

#2 LV & DJ Basta – Still Breathing EP

Oakland reps LV & DJ Basta channel old soul feel with lofi boombap on Still Breathing. Typically we use single songs on the Top 5 Submissions of the week, but this exceptional submission deserved some more shine we felt.

#3 Flamingosis – Down For The Fifth Time

Sunshine and skateboarding madness are the themes for this gem from the talented New Jersey beatsmith, Flamingosis.

#4 I-26 Nailz – Am I Wrong?

A popular current in hip hop’s Trap Genre is to glorify the grind in order to inflate the MC’s status. When I-26 Nailz tells his stories from the dark side of city living, it’s much deeper than superficial glorification of self, it is a reflection of the times and stories he carries with him. The Cold, Barren and Desolate, the project this single comes from, is a powerful, realistic and dark look into the trap.

#5 Priest – Don’t Worry (P. Blunted Beatz)

Adapted from true events, Queens MC Priest relays the internal battle of an artist in “Don’t Worry”. We find the protagonist pondering his present & future in a career in Hip-Hop and contemplating selling his soul to satisfy the excessive pressures and demands of the music industry’s expectations.
