Welcome to TWIB’s Weekly Top 5 Videos. This is a segment where we will be looking at some exceptional visuals from various acts from around the globe. The music video format has been around for decades and through the 90s and 2000s, it has really taken flight from multi-million budget music videos, to mid to low-budget videos with exceptional features. In this section, we will not discriminate but rather highlight some of the creative visuals that pop up on our radar.

Spaceman Dela – “Leaves Fall, Trees Die”

Spaceman Dela opens up this week’s list with his nostalgic-themed song titled “Leaves Fall, Trees Die.” The solemn tune dives into the concept of human’s ephemeral nature juxtaposed against personal loss, depression, and loss of childhood innocence. The visual by Pronce Biersing (Kreative Blok) has a gloomy aesthetic and the black and white texture really adds to the emotional punch of the song.

les Garçons Trottoirs – “La Moula”

French experimental hip-hop collective les Garçons Trottoirs share the visuals for their song “La Moula.” The guitar-laden track has an urgent feel and showcases the genre-bending style of the crew who take elements of reggae/dub with hip-hop elements. The visual is energetic and follows each member in different situations that would make viewers laugh or grin.

JAY FADE – “COKE NUMBERS”

JAY FADE shares the visuals for his second single “COKE NUMBERS” off his forthcoming project entitled AUTHENTIC. The track is a soulful and reflective record that sees him reflecting on life from the ups, downs, and in-betweens, he doesn’t leave any stories left out. The visual has a moody and somber feel and captures the rapper in his element.

Jo Sarah – “Juicy”

Dutch/Surinamese artist/producer Jo Sarah caught our eyes and ears with her new single titled “Juicy,” a bouncy track that celebrates the power and beauty of having an orgasm as a woman. Backed by an engulfing and upbeat soundscape, Jo Sarah delivers an expressive and alluring melodic performance ripe with vivid songwriting. The visual by Leanne Vink makes use of eye-catching motifs that brings the sensual topic to life in a fun and entertaining manner.

Zel Monstrous – “SPAR”

Zel Monstrous closes out this week’s list with the upbeat single titled “SPAR.” Over a bass-heavy backdrop, the emerging emcee delivers a bravado-laden performance with a stylish flow and nonchalant demeanor. The visual is quite entertaining and makes use of performance shots spliced with quick-cut scenes of the Crown Heights, Brooklyn rapper, and engaging visual effects to boot.
