Emerging rapper/singer/songwriter Soch closes out the year with his new EP I Dont Do Drugs, I Am Drugs, an 8 track body of work that blends alternative music with hiphop and a touch of soul. The EP is chock full of boastful and reflective bars that center around Soch’s experiences. From the good to the bad times, Soch gives audiences a raw, undiluted look.

The first track “Quest” helps set the tone with it’s solemn aesthetic and punchy grooves. Soch opens up with raw emotions and shows vulnerability as he unravels the many thoughts in his head. Lines like But my music and my balls are all I got when I take it off/You worry about the pic, forget the canvas it was painted on/Posing the flex lightly, it’s feeling kinda tasteless/ I’m doing wrong, looking for a scapegoat to train a dog” underscore his off-kilter perspective. This is followed by  “Backwood Tidal Wave,” a soulful piece ripe with Soch’s expressive flow and stream-of-consciousness raps that seamlessly weave different scenarios. The mood changes completely on “Where Tf Is The Bag?,” a laidback soul-sample-driven track with downtempo drums, haunting vocal samples and punctuated by Soch’s no-holds-barred lyricism and lucid storytelling.

Soch doesn’t hide from showing emotions, and in the same vein, raw lyricism in his songs. For example,“6am Flight” has an anthemic feel and is ripe with untethered bravado while “Vibeless” showcase his melodic style. He serenades audiences with a soothing, melodic performance as he weaves a vivid tale of the steamy session with that special someone. Next is the bouncy drill-pop-infused “Block List” where he details the dynamics of being stuck in a toxic relationship. Soch pours his heart on wax once more on “Aware n Away,” where he reflects on a past love and the emotional difficulty of moving on. The final track “A List Of Wishes” is an anthemic guitar-laden jam that helps bring the track to a close. Lines like My music crazy, heat tuck I ain’t glock concealing/Got your bitch flipping in the kitchen but she’s not a gymnast” are just a piece of the larger puzzle that Soch puts together on this fantastic cut.

Overall, I Dont Do Drugs, I Am Drugs, feels like a snapshot of Soch’s life. It doesn’t go extremely deep into details or uncharted territory but does enough to keep our attention from beginning to end.
