Emerging emcee Skypp looks toward a brighter day in these dark times on his uplifting track titled “A Beautiful Day in the Trenches.” A piano-laden joint that sees Skypp in full storytelling mode as he takes the listener through his neighborhood and introduces us to the various characters in the parks and the dark alleys.
The visual is shot and directed by Josh Jonez who goes for a bright, uplifting vibe while paying homage to the classic children show Mr. Rogers’ neighborhood. It sure has a nice aesthetic and fx that captures Skypp’s state of mind that is both hopeful and introspective.
Skypp gained recognition in 2011 with his weekly SoundCloud series, SKYPP SATURDAYS. He would flow over well-known rap instrumentals and feature some of the Midwest’s most prominent artists. The series has since then become history but is known to be one of the longest freestyle series in hip-hop history.
“A Beautiful Day in the Trenches” is the opening track to Skypp’s studio album The Ghetto Mr. Rogerz. Get it on all DSPs here.
