The Rolling Stallones is back with Vol. 6: Boombox Emperors , which is their 6th full-length release and their return to the scene after a 2-year hiatus. The 16-track project is a return to form for the trio made up of emcees Expertiz and Nick Marv and producer Goji Rock who all bring their A-game and deliver hard-hitting jams from start to finish.

Manifesting destiny within my life expectancy/Nourishing identity that is immune to jealousy

The project starts on a high note with the anthemic  “Boombox Emperors” featuring DJ M-TRI on the wheels of steel. Backed by the thumping rock drums and orchestral stabs, the rap duo trade bars in tandem with uch gusto reminding us of what we have been missing. Next up is “Read The Room” which starts with an urgent stand and rousing drum grooves underpinned by fiery raps like “The yeoman putting in the work like Ferry Beauman/ When it’s Time to sheist the antichrist and consecrate the omens/ If you feel emboldened, I’ll take everything you holding/ Keep the bodies in the trunk cause Stallones keep rolling“. DJ M-TRI joins them again on “Rocks Off the Roof”, bolstered by a menacing soundscape and gripping rap imagery that transports audiences into a grim and brooding environment. “Couch Potatoes” starts with a Charlie Murphy vocal sample and continues the trend with its edgy thumping drums and no-holds-barred raps from the duo.

As expected no stone is left unturned with the trio and listeners are gifted with more hard-hitting tracks like the rousing “This Side of Soul”  and the cinematic “Market Crash”, both tracks display pure lyricism from Expertiz and Nick. Both tracks feature their longtime collaborator DJ M-TRI who lace them with his excellent turntablism. In “Replicants”, we get more of their unfiltered rhyme schemes and this time, they opt for a dark dystopian theme detailing how grim the future might become. This theme continues to some degree in “Back Burner” where the duo blend dark themes while paying homage to the culture with lines like “Through the cloud covering the greenery, I pull crowd, to me MC means move the crowd, I learned that from the god Ra back when I was ten”.

The project closes out with  “Moral Ambiguity” featuring DJ M-TRI and “One Last Score”, two tracks that hit the bullseye with their edgy production that takes elements from 90s hip-hop, rock and breakbeats. “Moral Ambiguity” explores the grey areas of life and how everything is not white and black while “One Last Score” helps close the curtains on a high note. The production is cinematic and menacing and sees the duo laying down the verbal hammer on all the detractors.“Demolition Men” and “On The Flip Side” are another set of dope tracks that will get audiences’ adrenaline pumping. Other notable tracks include the DJ M-TRI-assisted “Whiteboy Boy” and “Be Cool”, which is perfect for a bboy battle with its rattling drum grooves and anthemic stabs. The “Cha Cha of Death” is an aptly titled track that reminds the perpetrators to stay clear while the ominous “Oh Lordy” displays the duo’s energetic raps.

Overall Vol. 6: Boombox Emperors is as energetic as they come and is chock full of hard-hitting breakbeats and unbridled rap schemes that stick to the plot. The tracks once again have a cinematic feel and are perfect for both bboy battles or your personal exercise playlists.
