Portland, Oregon multi-faceted artist Rekka shares the visuals for her herb-inspired jam titled “Light One Up.” The reggae/hiphop infused record produced by SmokeM2D6 is as groovy as ever with its crisp guitar plucks, pulsating bass lines, and punchy drums. Rekka definitely holds down the fort with her commanding melodic flow and stylish cadence as she shows her deep appreciation for the marijuana culture and its existence in her home state of Oregon. She is joined by international performing artist King Thayo who adds his own patois swag into the mix.
The single comes with a vibrant video shot by Diondre Collins of Collective Films. It starts off with Rekka shopping at the local dispensary Cannabis Curb while King Thayo makes his debut in the visual playing the role of the shop’s business owner, where he and Rekka meet for the first time. The shots also use various performance cuts of both artists and a party scene with captivating dance choreography and hazy aesthetics that pay homage to the weed culture.
“Light One Up” follows the release of Rekka’s 2021 EP Diamond in the Ruff as well as her most-streamed single to date, “You Been Sayin’ (Remix)” a collaboration featuring co-artists Freddie Scrillz and Exurt Beatz.
