Rising Raleigh, NC-based underground emcee MICHAELTHEVILLAIN caught our ears with his new release titled “GREATER HEIGHTS”, a reflective track that sees the rapper musing on the ups and downs of this thing called life. Bolstered Umys‘ sombre and soulful soundscape made up of warm piano keys, melodic vocal samples and punchy drum grooves, he details a myriad of events that shaped him and made him tick. His flow is quite distinct and his baritone voice stands out as he kicks lines like “Greater heights, thank you thank you to this rap shit, you saved my life, can’t even kid about it/ Go to war, grab the chopstick do the fade about it/ Take your food nigga go up in your fridge about it“.
Overall, the track is an engaging and perfect introduction to the man known as MICHAELTHEViLLAIN.
