Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Kendra Morris‘s newest release, “If I Called You,” is a bubbly summertime pop number that explores fantasy and the what-if moment with that special crush. For this, Morris and her band craft a brilliant nostalgia-driven piece that captures the fun moments we often invent in our heads about that special someone who doesn’t even know we exist. From the plucky guitar licks, rumbling grooves, lust strings and a prevalent bassline, Morris cascades the backdrop with her soothing vocal runs and heartfelt, vivid lyrics that detail how wonderful life would be with her crush.

The song comes with a captivating retro-tinged visual that is inspired by 90s MTV videos with a touch of surrealism and playfulness.

Kendra Morris’ band comprises Supremo Massiv on guitar, Monti Miramonti on bass, and Chauncey Yearwood on drums, alongside co-producer Leroi Conroy. She also recruits Legendary guitarist Jimmy James (Parlor Greens) for a solid guitar solo.

She burst onto the scene with her debut album over a decade ago and signed with Wax Poetics’ record label. She has recently locked into a revived, prolific groove: she signed to Colemine’s Karma Chief Records and has released 3 previous albums with the label, one of which Babble was are-release of an album she self-released back in 2016. A new album is currently in the works and will be released later this year.
