Chicano singer/songwriter Joey Quiñones is an East LA-raised artist whose musical style is cut from the deep roots of the city of angels. From absorbing the sounds of Cumbia from the mom and pop store to various sounds from his environment, Quiñones started his path by playing for multi-genre bands, and he eventually found his own sound. He is now forging his legacy alongside his collaborators, Eric Johnson from Thee Sinseers on saxophone and Eleazar from the Brown Boyz on piano.
His latest release, “Driftin,” is a retro-tinged Chicano/Northern soul piece that talks about the unpredictability of this thing called life and the power of memories that soothe the soul. Over warm and blissful keys, lush horns and a soft drum groove, Quiñones takes us on a bittersweet journey filled with fun memories, but with the caveat that one must eventually move on.
