Emerging rapper J Davon Harris shares his new project Asset Allocation, a 7 track body of work that journeys through the life of a young black man creating milestones while creating a legacy for himself. The project sees him teaming up with producer Remo Willz who produced it entirely. The project was initially released on a direct-to-consumer platform called EVEN in early August before landing on the major DSPs at the end of the same month.

The opening track “Magnum Opus” ushers listeners into J Davon Harris’ world and serves as a declaration of intent. Backed by the cinematic and enthralling soundscape and lines like “Wishing everybody life even though they wishing hell on me/Always ride by myself, I know that I won’t tell on me/Hit the bank I’ma bet on me and be everything I said I be”, J Davon reminds us of his pedigree and takes it a step further with an aspirational approach. It’s the perfect tone to start the project with as we start to get to know what truly makes him tick. The next track “Sailing” starts with a soulful horn arrangement, psychedelic samples with crunchy drum breaks. Here, J Davon delivers his bars with fiery intent and vivid imagery that digs deep into his lifestyle with a touch of reflection.

“Hudson River” is an introspective piece that sees J Davon running through several events and experiences that shaped him “Enter my beautiful world, where the ugly ain’t accepted/Where everything around me was all manifested/Had to cut and double back like we ran a misdirection/No option, no plan B’s no audibles ”, the lyrics are sublime and offer audiences the stark reality the artist is in. The project continues with reflective themes and on “Tierra Patagonia”, we once again get a glimpse into where J Davon is now. From his humble beginnings to achieving success, while on the sidelines, he sees some of his compatriates who fell on the wayside and wonders if that could happen to him if he didn’t put in the much-needed work. In the same vein, “Inertia” adds another dimension with a go-getter theme that shows J Davon’s never-say-die spirit.

The project wraps up with two solid tracks, the soulful and bouncy “Mezzanine Wave” and the solemn “Snow Globe”. The former is ripe with edgy and vivid bravado bars while the latter looks at life through sepia tones and sends a reminder to seize the moment because time never lasts.

In the end, Asset Allocation is a cohesive project that gets the job done with hard-hitting and soulful beats underpinned by relatable songwriting exploring the life of a young black man carving his niche in the game.
