Idris Lawal (fka as Tadé) returns with a brand new single titled “Gung Ho”. The record is as reflective as they come and sees the rising Toronto based act reflect on his personal growth and how life changes with it. Backed by a minimalistic backdrop, he delivers his thoughts with an emotion-laden drawl and vivid lyrics that tap into his Nigerian roots. He paints the picture of a man child leaving the comfort of his parent’s abode to journey into the world of uncertainty.

he further adds that “I was reflecting on the last year – having moved from Ottawa to Toronto to get closer to my dreams. Dealing with new adult responsibilities in a new environment became tasking and in my reflections, I became a lot more appreciative of the effort my parents took – moving away from family and the familiarity of home in Nigeria to a foreign country in Qatar, and then South-Africa, before settling in Canada. All the while, they instilled in me the importance of always remembering your roots and where you came from. These experiences and teachings were what ultimately inspired Gung-Ho’s lyrics.

Initially fronting a band – tadé – based in Ottawa where Idris studied marketing and music, he now resides in Toronto where he has been releasing music as a solo artist since 2019.
