The self-proclaimed Australian billionaire Lothario Billionaire Shortbread enters our site with his new project The Sextape, a 9-track body of work that blends classic R&B, hiphop with a modern pop twist.

The album title doesn’t hide its true intentions and audiences are thrown right into the mix of the action with the sultriness of 90s R&B inspired “Love by the Fireplace”. Backed by mid-tempo but bouncy drums, warm keys and soothing basslines, the melodic runs seep through the mix with vivid detail of what the singer needs from her lover. A pure unapologetic fulfillment of her innermost desires by the fireplace. The next one “My Lover I Love Making Love to You” is a rock-pop tune with a somewhat robotic vocal run. The verses use staccato cadences similar to rap which rise to a plateau on the chorus where the frenzied guitar riffs come into play. “Sweet Music” is a guitar-driven R&B/pop-infused tune. The lyrics are a bit on the nose and the melodies are somewhat alluring but the chorus doesn’t quite hit me in the soul.

The next set of tracks is a showcase of versatility as we get a wide range of sounds that are anchored on 90s R&B and hip-hop. “Lose It All” is reminiscent of Next while “It’s So Damn Hard for You” taps into the pop sphere with bright chords and anthemic choruses while “Billionaire Casanova (Australia’s Lothario)” employs a soul-stirring vocalist to deliver a soothing neo-soul number. “Sweet Harmony (Come With Me)” harks back to the 80s with its rich cinematic production and warm pads. The vocalist’s tone reminds me of The Mary Jane Girls by the way but the overall production is brilliant.

The last two tracks “Assume the Position” and “I Could Make You Feel So Good” bring the project to a close. The former is a sublime R&B number that explores the steamy one-on-one session between a lady and her lover. The melodic runs are rich and commanding and overall it has an En Vogue-esque vibe. “I Could Make You Feel So Good” has a modern pop/R&B vibe with its bright synth plucks, bouncy drums and heartwarming melodic performance.

Overall The Sextape, does what it says it would. 9 filled with pure unadulterated passion.
