A quick throwback from last year for those who missed it and for those who want to revisit it… DJ Ryow (not of Grand Beatz) adopted the alias of Smooth Current with his jazzy hip-hop release Scenes From Life.

For the most part, the album allows Ryow to do his thing solo; laying down expertly crafted tracks synonymous with the sound of jazz and soul inspired hip-hop that fans of Japanese producers will immediately recognise and vibe to.  It rarely looses it’s own signature sound and on the whole avoids merely blending in sonically with its cohorts.

The album also features two collaborative tracks with each of Ryow’s other affiliated groups; Shinsight Trio and Levitatorz.  They space out the other tracks well and, being a fan of both, their inclusion is most welcomed.

A wise choice for fans and newcomers alike…
