So right before she went into prison, Billboard reported that Lauryn Hill inked a $1 million deal with Sony that could’ve helped her avoid prison time for tax evasion (unfortunately she didn’t). The deal stipulates that she releases five songs and follow that up with an album (her last album was 2001’s MTV Unplugged No. 2.0). This deal will also help her launch a new label called Observe Creation Music.

As part of her deal, here’s one of her songs called ‘Neurotic Society‘. Known for her outspoken attitude, she releases this statement in response to the deal that she signed for:

Here is a link to a piece that I was ‘required’ to release immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline. I love being able to reach people directly, but in an ideal scenario, I would not have to rush the release of new music… but the message is still there. In light of Wednesday’s tragic loss (of former label mate Chris Kelly), I am even more pressed to YELL this to a multitude that may not understand the cost of allowing today’s unhealthy paradigms to remain unchecked!
