Geelong, a city southwest of Melbourne, Australia, is where rapper/songwriter Tonite calls home, and this place is what makes his heartbeat and blood boil. His latest release, “Breathe,” encapsulates his life’s experiences, ranging from loss, to growth, chaos and calm. Backed by Anthony Liddell‘s soulful and ethereal soundscape, Tonite takes listeners on a reflective verbal journey with lines like
“It’s music, HOO! it’s what I’m communicating to em through,
I felt rejuvenated when I’d pour a cup until the brew was changing up the mood,
I have to lose the hatred til it’s all just love and any move I’m making is in tune,
Have to move with grace until the calling comes and then illuminate it when I bloom,”
This underpins his true purpose as an artist, as he invites us to feel his emotions from his perspective. Joining him on the track is fellow musician Wild Gloriosa, whose expressive melodic runs raise the ante with a powerful emotional intent.
Tonite is preparing to release his debut solo album, set to roll out mid-year. The project promises a refined blend of 90s boom bap, intricate flow patterns, and soulful R&B—music Tonite describes as “12 years in the making.”
