Welcome to TWIB’s Weekly Top 10 Videos. This is a segment where we look at some exceptional visuals from various acts around the globe. The music video format has been around for decades, through the 90s and 2000s, and it has taken flight from multi-million budget music videos to mid to low-budget videos with exceptional features. In this section, we will not discriminate but highlight some creative visuals on our radar.
Again, we promise to bring you the best from high to low budget, to animated to DIY and first and foremost, the most creative visuals we can source.

Glane x – “Day Break”

Jamaican artist Glane x spits a heartfelt and sad tale in his new single “Day Break.” The piano-laden piece looks deep into the pressures of life that are imposed on the backs of young black men as they traverse this unforgiving world while finding light within the darkness. The visual employs cinematic techniques that take viewers deep into Glane x’s psyche and the demons he is battling.

 

 

CatchTwentyTwo – “He Doesn’t Love You” (Prod. CatchTwentyTwo)

Rising alternative musician CatchTwentyTwo blends the old and new in his latest track “He Doesn’t Love You.” The self-produced track is a disco/pop/modern R&B-infused ballad that explores love, heartbreak and the pining for that lover who is close yet far away. The accompanying visuals are a mix of colourful set pieces, cheerful and entertaining performance shots with love-themed motifs that bring the song to life on the screen. This is the first single from CatchTwentyTwo’s upcoming self-produced disco project exxxtreme disco.

 

MOTH3R – “Pagans”.

Rising South London artist who goes by the moniker MOTH3R enters our playlist with “Pagans.”  The self-produced single is a mix of genres ranging from modern UK-infused Dancehall with hip-hop elements, and sees the artist delivering an off-beat type of performance brimming with insightful and thought-provoking bars that explore an unorthodox viewpoint on life away from the norm. The visuals go straight to the point, and we get to see MOTH3R in her element, as a rapper/musician who is hands-on with her art, a mother and a leader in her own right.

“Pagans” is the lead Single from her debut EP Ritual Retribution.

 

NSG x The Compozers – “Tesco”

Hackney-based, African-born Afroswing pioneers NSG have joined forces with acclaimed live band The Compozers for the live performance of their new jam “Tesco.” The 4Play-produced track taken from the group’s new mixtape The Big 6 is an anthemic piece that showcases their UK and African roots in all its glory. The visuals directed by BIGGZ use cinematic aesthetics and dynamic lighting to elevate the performance, capturing the electric synergy that defines both acts.

 

Holland Izz – “Hood Therapy” (ft. MC BXB)

Compton-based artist Holland Izz drops visuals for his new single “Hood Therapy” featuring MC BXB. The track is a vivid account of the young rapper’s daily activity, captured through the gritty lens of the famous city. Over a prevalent synth-bass arrangement and bouncy grooves, Holland Izz and fellow rapper MC BXB take audiences deep into their hood without sugarcoating anything. The visual blends performance shots of both rappers surrounded by their posse and a bevy of voluptuous ladies. It also captures the essence of ’90s West Coast street culture with its stylish set pieces and motifs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Jamal Gasol – “Bang Bang Freestyle”.

Jamal Gasol delivers the visuals for his song “Bang Bang Freestyle” taken from his forthcoming mixtape Mr. 31 Vol. 3 (The Threat Tape). The Alchemist-produced track is the classic C-N-N track “Bang Bang,” and it’s safe to say Jamal Gasol did an awesome job with the bars. He doesn’t leave any stone unturned as he steps into the forefront with confidence and poise. The visuals were shot by Blackbelt Jonez, who employs subtle cinematic elements to good effect, from the engaging, lively performance shots to the dark lighting and smooth transitions that help bring everything together.

 

 

 

 

DEAD PERRY x ill bill – “Welcome To Hell” ft. Ill Bill, DJ Eclipse & P-Dirt

DEAD PERRY , P-Dirt and the legendary ill bill team up for the hard-hitting “Welcome To Hell,” a raw, unfiltered piece that showcases unapologetic bravado-driven rhymes with street savvy elements. Over the dark and ominous backdrop, the emcees proceed to wreak havoc like no man’s business. Also on the track is DJ Eclipse, who slices up excellent vocal scratches to tie it all together. The accompanying visuals are all AI-generated and the result is a dark, dystopian and gritty visual that captures the slow decay of the world we live in. The track is taken from  Acoustic Shadows, the new LP from enigmatic boom-bap producer DEAD PERRY.

 

B.A Badd – “100””

B.A Badd recently put out the single “100,” and now he returns with the visuals. The track produced by Virginia beatsmith Sypooda‘ is ominous and dark and perfect for B.A Badd’s street savvy and go-getter themes. For the visuals, he recruits director Trigg The Ruler to help bring it to life. It was shot on home soil in Syracuse, NY.

 

 

Kadeem Tyrell – “Handle That”

South London singer/songwriter Kadeem Tyrell enters our visual playlist with the visuals for his song “Handle That.” The retro-tinged R&B/soul tune samples Ginuwine’s “Pony” with a modern twist. Kadeem Tyrell delivers a brilliant performance ripe with heartfelt lyrics that explore true love and the challenges that come with making it work. The visual also has a throwback vibe that captures the early 2000s with a late 90s aesthetic as well.

 

 

Thirstin Howl The 3rd, Nemesis – “Ova Ya Shoulder”

The one and only Lo-Life general Thirstin Howl The 3rd and Los Angeles-based wordsmith Nemesis team up for “Ova Ya Shoulder,” a dark, gritty, lyric-dense track produced by Dr. No! that cements their legacy in the rap game. The video was directed by Thirstin Howl The 3rd for Skillusions Films and directed by Stephen Box Lo Gonzalez for Gold Box Film Studios and was shot on location in California at NBA Hall-of-Famer Kevin Garnett‘s Content Cartel Studios.

 

 

 

ROE – “In My Skin”.

Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter ROE caught our ears and eyes with the visuals for her song “In My Skin.” The mellow modern R&B/soul infused track explores the blurry lines between work and love and how the balance can tip over. Armed with her sultry and distinctive lilting vocals, ROE pours her all on wax as she searches for that pure connection that soothes her soul. The accompanying visual is a motif-driven piece that is driven by a slow-paced movement, dark lighting and moody set pieces that tap into ROE’s swirling emotions.

 

 

 

WOLFMAN JECKYLL x Studs Ramrod – “Get Cha” prod. by Studs Ramrod

WOLFMAN JECKYLL and producer Studs Ramrod share visuals for their collaborative track “Get Cha.” The track has a moody and solemn vibe and is underpinned by WOLFMAN JECKYLL’s unapologetic rhymes laced with bits of off-kilter and edgy bars. The visuals are engaging too, and employ a lot of fast cuts with performance shots.

 

 

 

Nadeem Din-Gabisi – “Enter Claim”

 

Multi-faceted artist Nadeem Din-Gabisi share visuals for his song “Enter Claim.” Blending spoken word with modern afrobeats and experimental pop elements, Nadeem delivers an insightful and groovy tune that explores the present human condition and the power of self-belief. The song also features Angel Seka, Divine Earth (fka muva of Earth. The visuals are highly detailed and use a mix of performance shots, fast-paced cuts and lighting.
