Welcome to TWIB’s Weekly Top 10 Videos. This is a segment where we look at some exceptional visuals from various acts around the globe. The music video format has been around for decades, through the 90s and 2000s, and it has taken flight from multi-million dollar budget music videos to mid to low-budget videos with exceptional features. In this section, we will not discriminate but highlight some creative visuals that pop up on our radar.

Again, we promise to bring you the best from high to low budget, to animated to DIY and first and foremost, the most creative visuals we can source.

Vocab Slick – “Lucifer’s Fist”.

Vocab Slick‘s “Lucifer’s Fist” is a thought-provoking and profound look at the unseen battles we all face. Backed by a menacing and dark soundscape, Vocab Slick paints a vidi picture of the never ending struggles and difficulties life throws at us. The visual blends performance shots of the rapper alongside retro-tinged effects and clips from films and documentaries that punctuate the theme of the track.

 

 

Soane – “Fountains”.

French-Morrocan singer/songwriter Soane enters our weekly video playlist with their new release “Fountains.” The track showcases raw and powerful sultry vocals laced over modern R&B/hip-hop production. The emotionally charged piece explores the power of true huamn connection, while being in the moment. The visual approach uses still shots from different angles, mostly top view.

 

NOFUN! – “RIOT”

LA-Based Collective NOFUN! is a 9 member collective bringing a refreshing take on punk/hiphop/rock. Their eight release titled “RIOT” is a boisterious and energetic piece that explodes through the speakers with raw intensity. The visuals captures the collective at one of their shows where they go buck wild while entertaining the crowd. NOFUN! comprises Dave Coresh, Levi Evans, Garrett Gloom, Huebline, Louie Lambo, SWANN, WADE08, Mother Wata, and Zoodeville.

 

 

DJ Premier & Ransom – “Forgiveness”

“Forgiveness” is taken from DJ Premier and Ransom’s new project, The Reinvention, which has been making waves.  The track is a confession of sorts as we hear Ransom detailing his greivances, unveiling his flaws and taking charge of the situation. The beat by DJ Premier is dope too and continues his legacy as one of the greatest producers of any era. The visual style is cinematic and blends shots of Ransom having a private monet with a priest while Preem cuts up the track with his signature scratches.

 

 

 

 

KhakiKid – “Moved On”

The final track “Moved On” is from Irish alternative rapper and singer KhakiKid and the follow up to his garage-inspired, genre-defying anthem with duo Aki Oke, “DONT TOUCH THE CDJ.” The track is a smooth pop/rap infused track that explores the emotions that come post breakup and reflective thoughts of contentment and balance.  The track is produced by award-winning London born producer Louis Stanley Isaac, who laces him with summery guitar licks and headnodding grooves. The visual style is a blend of performance shots and off beat story telling that follows KhakiKid through different set pieces as he weaves through life after a breakup.

 

KhakiKid has an upcoming headline show at the 3Olympia Theatre in Dublin on 27th November.
