New York City’s future-soul collective The Love Experiment (LEX) is a genre-shifting musical collective comprising drummer Charles Burchell, Bassist Parker McAllister, Guitarist Andrew Burglass, Devon Dixon Jr. on keys, vocalist/Saxophonist Syl DuBenion and singer Kim Mayo. The collective is taking their musicianship to new heights as they deliver their new single “Who’s Gonna Save The World,” to the global stage. The rousing piece is an impeccable fusion of soul, funk, with Afrocentric percussions and rich layered instrumentation laced with relevant social commentary of the state of affairs. From the punchy and irresistible grooves and soul-stirring vocal runs and insightful message, audiences are thrown into the mix and given a thought-provoking and enlightening message about the parts we all need to play in this thing called life. The progressive arrangement is what really drives the track and provisions a raw urgency that heats up a sthe song moves along and closes out with a fiery rap from Burchell’s rap alter ego Karnival Kid.
This is more than just revolutionary music, but also a profound look at how actionable steps lead to change.
“Who’s Gonna Save the World” is featured on the group’s forthcoming album Velvet. Velvet is the group’s first full-length release since their acclaimed debut in 2016, and it lives up to its name. Like the fabric, these songs are warm and rich, with a shine and texture that feels both vintage and futuristic. LEX draws from the late ’80s and early ’90s, the velvet tracksuit era, but spins that nostalgia into something new through analog synths, drum machines, and raw, live groove sessions that keep each take alive and human. They also reunite with original member J. Hoard, a Grammy-winning songwriter and dynamic presence on NYC’s underground jam scene, and bring in sharp-edged MCs like Pink Siifu, JSWISS, and C-Red to inject fresh hip hop energy.
