Electic music producer SV and singer/songwriter Antonia Marquee have joined forces to deliver an innovative project entitled Past Partial. The 7 track project is a fusion of experimental beats with live instrumentation from musicians JaMichael, Kevon Scott, who both play the flute and sax respectively.

The project opens up with the single “Now You Wish You Would,” a solemn piece that evokes nostalgia and sombre moments. The layered beat has an emotional drawl that soothes the soul but it’s Antonia Marquee’s sublime vocals that raise the ante. Her effortlessly melodic runs cascade the beat like warm butter over hot pancakes while JaMichael’s airy flutes add a cinematic touch to the track. This is followed by the moody “Saving Grace” which has Kevon Scott on the sax. The sax seamlessly blends into the smooth sample chops and soft grooves while Antonia Marquee’s soft vocals blend perfectly into the backdrop. The fun continues on “The Answer,” a heartfelt love ballad with lofi/boombap aesthetics. The singer reminds us that love is the way with a memorable hook while Scott adds to the notion with a spirited sax solo. “Art Seek Rile” comprises layered guitar licks, atmospheric textures and hushed drum grooves with a thick bassline arrangement. Once again Antonia Marquee’s vocal accompaniment takes the track to new levels.

Other notable tracks include the “Get Lost” and “All That.” Both tracks include instrumentation from Flutist JaMichael.The tracks have a distinct and off-kilter vibe that breaks genre conventions. With elements of lofi, soul, and contemporary pop with a touch of classical elements, audiences will be thrilled from start to finish. The latter has a modern R&B vibe, and subtle vocal samples and live flute make it quite refreshing. The project closes out with  “Target Atmos” with Antonia Marquee in the lead. From her main explosive melodic runs to sublime harmonies, she delivers a solid performance underpinned by JaMichael’s scenic flute arrangements and SV’s ominous production.

Overall Past Partial, is a genre-bending project that doesn’t conform to the standards and follows the unbeaten path. SV’s production weaves cinematic textures with off-beat instrumentation, sampling and live music together in a seamless manner. His cohorts must also be praised as each of them brings something new and different to the beats.
