The project opens up with “Breath and Exposure,” a self-assessment track inspired by her experiences in a breathwork class. The track comprises discordant strings, and brooding pads tethered by a dynamic arrangement. The tension and resolution approach runs through the track as it soars with thick bass drums, swirling sound design and Street Peach’s hypnotic vocal runs. This is followed by the sombre “Caroline,” comprising downtempo drums and an overwhelming melancholic aesthetic. Here, Street Peach explores raw vulnerability, the dynamics of true love while finding solace in that one person. Lines like “I lay down my dagger, I crush my own shell/ Keeps me hidden from you, for you I risk my own health” underscore the lengths she would go for this beautiful feeling. Next is “Heavy,” a bright summer breezy pop/R&B tune that displays Street Peach’s airy vocal runs and use of layered harmonic sounds. The production on this track has a rich layered feel and brings a warm and reflective feel different from the previous tracks. On “Numb,” Street Peach dives into the concept of losing onself in the euphoria of love and giving in. Street Peach punctuates every line with her soothing vocals and profound lines like “Drag me down , down to the roots/with the mud, show me the dirty truth/there inside a missing place, not anyway , too much space.”
The gloomy “Overflow” dives into the aftermath of betrayal and the process of dealing with it from an emotional standpoint. The soundscape is sparse, and brooding and is underpinned by soul-stirring, breathy vocals and candid lyrics that dig deep into the matter. Street Peach doesn’t leave any stone unturned as she runs through the emotions and scenarios as she comes to terms with the reality. The project closes out with the summery “New Moon In Leo” and the reflective “34.” The latter is punctuated by slick guitar licks, head-nodding drums and a spirited vocal performance with heartfelt lyrics that dive into the concept of independence. She talks about not letting another anchor her down and rather letting the love grow naturally. “34” comprises atmospheric pads and dark brooding strings with sparse drums underpinned by Street Peach’s breathy melodic runs and outpour of emotions that explore growth and compromise within love.
Monarch charts a new path for Street Peach as she ventures into the crevices of her emotions. She is candid, unapologetic and gives audiences a true sense of her journey as an artist. In her own words, she adds “I hope it touches those who are in their own process of transformation and healing.”
In a nutshell, she explains the background behind the creation of the EP, “I hadn’t written in a long time. I had gotten busy with work and just kind of given up on music, or shelved it so to speak not really knowing what my process would be like. When lockdown happened, I finally had the free time and all of a sudden songs were pouring out of me.“ Street Peach is most known for her work as the Austin powerhouse trio Keeper co-founder.
