KCMO Based Producer & Singer MaxxMarvel unveils his new project, Prism Theory, a 9 track project that showcases his versatile production style. The title is a reference to the science behind the prism, the different colours that are attributed to our feelings and how we react to situations.

The project starts with “The Base (Rose),” an upbeat track comprising angelic vocal harmonies, moody pads and atmospheric synths laced over punchy energetic drum grooves. The track is lively, and uplifting and helps set the tone on a somewhat bright note. Next is “Can U Hear Me out There (Saffron)” a genre-bending piece that blends future soul with electronic elements. The drums are crisp punchy and the melodic tones and textures are sublime while the vocal sample adds a scenic feel to the overall vibe. “End of the Party (Lilac)” is a groovy piece that starts rather slow and mellow before the punchy drums come into the scene. The icing on the cake is the progressive arrangement of the track which switches from electronic soul to jazz-infused rhythms in a heartbeat.

MaxxMarvel pulls out the big guns of the following set of tracks. He goes for a mix of Jersey club/downtempo trap groove on “U Look Fine (Teal)” which switches at certain parts. The plucky synths, atmospheric synths and use of guitar power chords towards the end are quite dope. Next is “Recirculator (Alexandrite),” an upbeat modern pop/contemporary piece that sounds like the running stage of a video game. The overall feel of the track is bright and warm and it’s a surprising change from the previous track. The following tracks “Solus-Interlude (Blue),””Being Selfish (Iris)” and “These Lights (Jade)” all explore different human emotions and experiences, respectively.  “Solus-Interlude (Blue)” is solemn and moody, while “These Lights (Jade)”  is a mix of emotions and grooves while “These Lights (Jade)” is a smooth and warm piece that evokes reflection with a touch of breezy vibes The final track “The Edge- Outro (Onyx)” serves as a bittersweet reminder that things do come to an end. The keys are melancholic and the ethereal pads add an extra sad vibe to the track.

Overall Prism Theory is an interesting body of work that explores the connection between colours and human emotions/feelings and does it in a refreshing manner. MaxxMarvel’s production style is progressive and forward thinking and his nonconformist approach is what makes the entire project special.
