Canadian rapper/songwriter Lex Leosis has finally released her sophomore album don’t Get Hurt. The 10-track project is a culmination of a week-long writing/production camp that finds Lex Leosis teaming up with a handful of artists and producers. Leosis handles the bulk of the songwriting and vocals, but also brings in artists like callmestevieray, Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Harry Jay and Obvi. On the production/writing lineup, we have names like Tee-WaTT,Wyatt Woodley, Rock Burwell, Justin Acee, Troy Corriea Boyd and Brodie Metcalf, while Juno Award-winning mixing engineer Jamie Kuse helps glue it all together.

The project is led by the focus track “betterthanu” featuring Snotty Nose Rez Kids, and Obvi, and it’s a brilliant, hard-hitting track that highlights Leosis’s versatility and knack for painting engaging lyrical imagery with swag. Bolstered by a dark and brooding backdrop, Leosis goes for the jugular with a double-time flow laced with raw bravado. Her co-conspirators are not far behind and come through with that edgy no-nonsense energy.

Don’t Get Hurt is concise, well-crafted and straight to the point. Each song fills the gaps and ticks the boxes that further show Lex Leosis’s insightful style. From relationships, losses, self-doubt, flaws, insecurities to successes, Leosis gives the audience the entire package without mincing words.
