Eclectic singer/songwriter Joya Mooi sets off November with her new single “Pay Day.” The laidback modern R&B/soul ballad explores delicate topics ranging from security from an emotional and financial lens, the true meaning of wealth and the true value of time. Mooi’s sultry vocals float effortlessly over the lush guitar chords and warm pads as she sings “Rolling down every damn month/25 is the payday/It seems rich coming from me/I wish I was be spending” before pouring out her deepest needs on the chorus.

The song was written when Mooi discovered she was pregnant and was inspired by South Africa’s payday ritual, when payment at the end of the month coincides with certain cultural and social practices.
