Rising South Florida-based singer/songwriter Gobe (pronounced Go Bee) is bridging his love for different musical styles and proficiency with the ink. Raised on the beach side with a music-loving father who soaked him in classic rock, Gobe also ventured into extracurricular activities, including piano playing and surfing and all kinds of sports. But as he grew older, he gravitated to rock, hip-hop, and modern punk with pop and found a niche way to seamlessly blend it all together in his latest EP entitled see through my eyes. The 5-track body of work explores the life of a young man going through the everyday struggles that will eventually prepare him for the future.

The opening track, “for once in my life” begins with a laid-back guitar pluck and progresses into a reflective track underpinned by warm summer vibes. Here, we get to know a bit of who Gobe is and what makes him tick as he talks about trust, friendship, and taking chances. He doesn’t rely on overbloated themes but rather stays grounded with heartfelt and candid lines that showcase raw vulnerability and the ability to evoke emotions without going off tangent. This is followed by “under my skin” is a solemn and reflective look at a past relationship. Backed by a sad minor chord progression comprising lush guitar licks and woozy pads, Gobe talks about being fully invested in someone at some point and the actions that led to the dissolution of the relationship. Armed with his laidback melodic style, he delivers a heartwrenching performance as he sings “We were so damn close and I can feel you under my skin and it’s harder to breathe when I know what you did and I hope that you know I can’t let it go.” Next is “sun leaves scars,” an uplifting track that dives into the pitfalls of success and fame but also celebrates the opportunities that come with life. The title is just alluding to how sometimes, one might not be prepared for our dreams to come true, but the best approach is to take it one day at a time. The track evokes pure summer vibes on the beach with a nostalgic and hopeful feel and a standout track to me because of how Gobe fuses pop melodies with some rapping and soft rock sensibilities.

The last two songs on the project continues to showcase Gobe’s versatility as he ventures into new musical territories with the inclusion of modern contemporary R&B and pop. The first and only collaboration comes in the mid-tempo “phone aches” featuring singer Brooke Martin. The duet sees both artists sharing their feelings as each yearns for that true love that seems to elude them. Gobe starts the verse with his distinctive soft rock vocal style while Martin complements it with her pop/R&B infused vocal stylings and together they deliver a heartfelt love tale that young men and women can relate to. The final and title track, “see through my eyes” helps bring the EP to a close and sees Gobe speaking his truth on wax. Over a pop/rock production ripe with sizzling guitar licks and punchy hip-hop drum grooves, Gobe shares a personal journey about growth, self-belief and how he followed his dreams even if naysayers and detractors tried to derail him. Here, he showcases his rapping skills with his vivid storytelling and passionate flow.

Overall see through my eyes, is more than a collection of commercial appealing tunes but also a snapshot of who the artist known as Gobe is. His ability to convey his emotions while keeping audiences tuned in with well-crafted soul-stirring backdrops and catchy hooks is what makes the project brillian.
