Detroit-born R&B/Soul singer/songwriter Cullen Emadrey is walking his own path while tapping into the spirit of the classic Motown energy that made his city famous. With influences that range across eras with the likes of Aaliyah, Maxwell, Majid Jordan and Galimatias, Emadrey brings a unique take on the genre. On his new single “DO THAT,” Emadrey breaks the conventional love story with a look at a toxic relationship where red flags are ignored. Over Donavelo‘s sublime and moody backdrop, Emadrey delivers a heartfelt performance bolstered by sultry melodic runs and a mantra-like hook underpinned by emotional compromise. Lines like So if you stay the night/Don’t think that’ll change the timeline/You really ain’t beating/all the ain’t shit allegations/but I don’t care” underscore Emadrey’s devil may care intentions as he heads straight ahead into a dangerous entanglement.
