Prolific UK-based American producer Big O and longtime collaborator P-Rawb are back with Time & Space, the follow-up to their debut collaborative project, The Complexity. The 10-track body of work represents the duo’s journey as artists and young men traversing this unpredictable landscape called life. The project is divided into two parts, which include original songs and their instrumental equivalent.
The project opens with “Follow My Lead (Intro),” an instrumental opening laced with scenic strings, ethereal textures and futuristic blips anchored over a voice-over detailing the topic of contentment and a resolute spirit. This set the tone for the following track, “Rise To The Top,” which brings listeners up to speed with current events. Over, Big O’s choral-driven soundscape, P-Rawb delivers fiery verses brimming with energy and vivid lyrics like “Raised by the great ones, my tongues just a reflection of Rakim, Black Thought, Em & Jay, Guru, Mercedez benz, jansport on my skateboard, who knew?/That I’d be here, no arena to be feared/Don’t ever spot chasing your dreams, now are we clear? Don’t ever stop, now are we clear?” That underpins the uplifting message to everyone chasing their dreams. The next track, “Hard Pressed,” continues the inspirational themes with P-Rawb embodying the spirit of the man on a mission, moving through obstacles. Bars like “Be the light, That is why I fight and move accordingly/Sharpen your angles when they try to shorten your offering/ ?? the dangers, they got fangs too for your arteries/But pain is a part of me now watch me bang ‘em down audibly” help cement his mission statement.
The first set of features starts with the track “Power Within (Searchin’)” featuring Fashawn and Adrienne Mack-Davis. The track’s production is cinematic and somewhat dark, while the lyrics are a reflection of the times and the never-ending search for life’s true purpose. P-rawb set things off with his gruff flow anchored on a go-getter mindset, followed by Fashawn’s insightful verse that digs deep into the pain points of humanity, from flaws, self-doubt, to finding one’s inner strength. The final track, “For the Gods,” features L.O.U. and Rxlph with Scratches By Decksterror. Big O’s production is dynamic and edgy and uses some afro-centric grooves with atmospheric sound design that is punctuated by the expressive raps from the emcees and the brilliant scratches by Decksterror. The track’s introspective vibe is a perfect way to close the project.
The latter half of the project offers listeners the instrumental versions of the tracks and it is a showcase of Big O’s production prowess as each instrumental packs a punch.
