Prolific Sac-town emcee Showtime Ramon is back with another round of lyrical goodness, and this time he connects with Mexico-based producer Xynfe for a brand new EP entitled Deva. The project is led by two major songs, “Mick Foley” and “Swerve Strickland.”

The first track, “Mick Foley,” is a tribute to the wrestler of the same name and sees Showtime Ramon in his element as he flows effortlessly over Xynfe’s brooding soundscape. Here, he delivers a tandem of no-holds-barred raps laced with wrestling/hip-hop references such as “If Foley is God everything that I’m spitting is holy/I’m facing Mankind, the world is mine Mick Foley/Now I’m goin dumb I’m spittin’ thizz till they face pissy/I’m switching lanes, my pen game geting shifty.” The fun doesn’t stop here ,and he goes on with several references to Mick Foley’s wrestling moves as well.

The second track, “Swerve Strickland is another hard-hitting gem that continues Showtime Ramon’s sports-themed style. Over Xynfe’s moody and dark backdrop, comprising cinematic textures and mellow but punchy drums, Showtime Ramon proceeds to throw haymaker after haymaker. At this point, we should just crown him with the title of reference king as he blazes the track with lines like “I’m the new flavor, hit like Swerve Strickland / Swerve stomp, gas break and I’m dippin’” and “JML Driver, I’m flippin’ em on they’re head.” The result is a solid hardcore banger for lovers of underground rap and wrestling alike.
