As we inch closer to the release of TYP-ILL’s upcoming opus Veterans Day, the Long Island emcee serves up his third, and final leak with, “Dog Tags & Duffle Bags.” It’s one of his most gripping cuts to date as it’s filled with details from the Army veteran’s real-life experiences as a soldier.

Already known for not pulling any punches as a lyricist on songs like “Let Em Talk,” TYP drives that point home while flowing effortlessly over Statik Selektah’s brooding instrumental. In each verse, the ‘soldier emcee’ outlines what it was like fighting overseas, from the rockets crashing around him, down to the items lining his pockets.

“This track is who I was for nearly six years,” TYP says of the Veterans Day track. “The experiences I had as a soldier were beyond compare, and I will never forget or regret the choices I made.” He adds that this is his “ode to all the combat veterans out there,” so if you’ve been through anything similar, know someone who has, and wondered what it’s like, it’s time to listen up.

Veterans Day, which is now available for pre-order via iTunes, drops next Wednesday (Veterans Day) through all major digital retailers, and becomes available on Compact Disc, next Friday (11/13), through Fat Beats.
