Emcee/Actor Fredro Starr of ONYX fame is a man about his business. Appearing on classic cuts such as “Slam“, “All we got iz us“, “Shut ’em down” with his posse ONYX to solo cuts such as “What If“, “Dying 4 rap“, “Rambo” to his rap feuds and numerous TV appearances, Fredro is known not to pull his punches and can often times seem daunting to most.
Growing up listening to his music and watching him on tv, it is always nice having to sit down with the man and chop it up on his latest endeavours.

 

How is it going with the new collaborations with Dope D.O.D?

Its going fucking great, the onyx dope d.o.d album “Shotgunz in hell” is crazy, we just got back from Africa and they blasting it out there! the streets is feeling it!

You dropped a collab project “Made In The Streets” with Audible Doctor, are there plans to release similar projects in the future- working with a sole producer?

I dont know, maybe, for now we working on the 100MAD album.

If a movie about your life in music was to be made, what interesting/strange moments and stories would you share to make the movie cool?

I wrote a book called Slamboyz, and now the book is a script, The Onyx biopic is like the 5 heart beats of hip hop lol, a lot of drama, RIP Big DS, JMJ and B Wiz. The movie is gonna be crazy!

Are there any other interesting facts about you that hardly anyone else knows?

I don’t know what anyone knows, so I don’t know.

What is the greatest thing about working in the music industry? And what would you change if you had the opportunity?

The greatest thing is making music, and I don’t want to change a damn thing.

Looking back, what have been the most important moments in your life?

Everyday I wake up is the most important moment.

What have been the biggest highlights?

I have been blessed to be doing this shit for over 30 years, so many highlights lol I love hip hop.

What has been your biggest challenge…and how did you overcome it?

I am my biggest challenge.

Who have been the coolest, most memorable people you’ve met along the way, and how did they make an impact on your life?

So many cool people, but Jam Master Jay was the coolest. He believed in me from the first time I met him. The Onyx movie is gonna be crazy!

When you’re sitting on the porch age 97 what would you like to look back on and smile having achieved?

97 haha, I hope when I’m smiling I still have my teeth.

What has been your most memorable or inspirational gig and why?

I don’t know, so many memorable gigs, every show is inspirational.

What has been your strangest celebrity encounter?

All celebrities are strange, in a good way.

Who would be your ideal dinner guest, living or dead, and what would you serve them?

BIG would be an ideal diner guest, the few times we chilled together he always laughed at my little jokes, a lot of weed smoke was in the air. plus I know he love to eat.

greatest songs: whats going on, flying high. greatest albums: life after death, whats going on.
