Dela – Unreleased Jazz Covers (c. 2007-2008)

French producer Dela is a name that needs no introduction around here. In between releasing the superb Translation Lost (read our album review) earlier this year on vinyl and working on new material, he’s recently taken to Soundcloud uploading some rough covers of classics that similarly should need no introduction. Masterful work by one of the genres most promising artist – I know I’ll be keeping these in heavy rotation this weekend.

ALBUM REVIEW: Karriem Riggins – Alone Together

I didn’t think I’d heard any of Karriem Riggins‘ work when I was asked to review this, his first, album. Turns out that if you’ve listened to a Common album you’ve probably heard him. My closest audio encounter with him seems to be that he finished Dilla’s posthumously released album The Shining. Judging by this album, Dilla’s mother picked exactly the right person to complete the work on it.

Gangstarr vs. The Jazzual Suspects (DJ Kumi Blend)

Despite a healthy number of hits on YouTube, it seems The Jazzual Suspects are so under the radar they’re almost undetectable as a collective. Thankfully DJ Mark Farina introduced many, including me, to their craft through the Mushroom Jazz series and now James “DJ Kumi” Alvarez has hand-picked their “This Beat” track for a blend incorporating Guru – it all makes for a seriously smooth three-something minutes.
