NEWS: Nas, Common and Q-Tip Might Be Forming Rap’s Version of the Avengers

OH MY GOD! The Standard -- which is a group consisting of Common and Q-Tip -- might be adding Mr. Nasir Jones to the mix. It's like The Avengers adding Thor. I mean, my god, I hope this happens. Obviously, we know Nas and Q-Tip worked together on "One Love" and Common and Nas released "Ghetto Dreams" a few months back. Common and Q-Tip formed The Standard in 2007 even though they haven't released any music ... yet.
If this happens, my head might explode. I'll keep ya'll updated as I get updated.

NEWS: Kurupt Working with Dre, Snoop and Daz on the New DPG Album

Kurupt recently spoke with Cam Capone about a new Dog Pound Gang album. According to Kurupt, Dre is overseeing/assisting with production, Snoop is guiding the album and Daz will be featured on the new album called, "Alumni".
Here's Kurupt on his role and the roles Dre, Snoop and Daz on the album:
"Dr. Dre's gonna oversee things to make sure it sounds good and is tight," he explained. "Snoop's gonna basically put it together with me and Daz."
On Dre's continued brilliance in the studio:
"You know it's gonna be right," he said. "It's exciting all the time. He keeps you inspired and keeps you focused."
And finally, the album's timeline:
"We don't got no time frame," Kurupt explained.
Alliteration aside, I'm excited for the album as one of my other favorite West Coast groups, 213, are no longer due to Nate Dogg's tragic passing.
More info when I get it.

NEWS: Phife Dawg Open to Another Tribe Tour but Says It’s Really Far Away From Happening

Phife Dawg recently spoke with the Montreal Gazette about a possible Tribe reunion. The good news is Phife wants to do a tour and he knows the fans do as well. The bad news is scheduling may be tough. It's days like these that make me wish I born a few years earlier so I could've seen them when they toured regularly. Shit, I'd spend my life savings to attend a Tribe concert.
Anyway, here's the copy of the interview:
“We’ve got to take it one day at a time,” the rapper said, regarding the possibility of getting back together with his old microphone partner Q-Tip and DJ-producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Together they formed one of the landmark rap groups of the early ’90s, not to mention the history of hip hop.
“We’re really, really far away from (a reunion) right now,” Phife continued, on the phone Monday from the Bay Area, where he has lived with his wife since 2004.
“But you never know. We’re brothers at the end of the day. Tip is the type of guy who is always busy, then on a whim he calls you and says, ‘Meet me at the studio.’ Next thing you know, we’ve started something.
“Everyone has to be patient with us, and keep your fingers crossed. I’m keeping mine crossed. I’m ready to rock ’n’ roll. I want to get busy. As much as I love solo projects, at the end of the day, the fans want a joint effort.”
My fingers remain crossed.

FREENESS: Lyle Horowitz – Redamancy
Lyle Horowitz - Ridiculous Ft. Deniro Farrar & Big Pooh
Lyle Horowitz - B-43 (Feat. Lewis)
Beautiful work by Lyle Horowitz...based on his previous releases, nothing less is to be expected.
I started Redamancy on Valentine's Day 2011 during a bus ride back to New York from North Hampton, Massachusetts. I plugged my laptop into the power outlet and created the first draft of "B-43", which is now the album closer. A big part of why this project means so much to me is because of the circumstances that led to me creating it and what I learned about myself and others after those circumstances occurred. Although the impetus for this album was a break-up, this is not a break-up album, at least not entirely -- Redamancy explores love and heartbreak from all sides and the effects it has on those that go through it. This is a truly personal body of work and I hope that you enjoy it. - Lyle Horowitz

MF DOOM Signee, The Dark Monk, Releasing Debut Album
The Dark Monk, an emcee on MF DOOM's Metal Face Akademy, announced February 28 as the release date of his debut album, True Underlord. Above is "Real Terror", a single from True Underlord. It almost has a Wu-Tang type feel.
DOOM, Jake One and Madlib all have production on the album. Dark Monk toured with DOOM over the past few years and, like DOOM, Monk also protects his identity.

AUDIO: Evitan (Dres & Jarobi) – Give It To Me

Brand new track from the upcoming album by Evitan. I'm building up anticipation for this release for a couple of reasons; Jarobi being considered the enigmatic member of ATCQ and Dres being a favourite MC of mine. It feels good to be able to look forward to an album by artists like this.

MIX: Valentine’s Day – DOPEfm Style (EXCLUSIVE)
The Word is Bond has partnered up with DOPEfm to bring you some fresh new content.
Today, we are proud to present a special mixtape for you and your loved one, Valentine's Day - DOPEfm Style.
I hope you put this on while you make your loved one a nice Valentine's dinner. Or you can spin it anytime you want to hear some smooth, respectful, hip-hop love songs.
Be warned that this is some mushy rap but each song bangs. I especially like the closing song by Common, "The Light." I think that is quite possibly the best hip-hop love song of all time. Of course, we had to start out with one of the very first romantic rap songs, "I Need Love" by LL Cool J.
FREENESS: Various – Do The Dilla 2012 (A Tribute To The Drum-Master)

If I was asked to pick a selection of producers to pay tribute to Dilla then this compilation would be pretty damn close to my list. The lies of Mr Dibia$e, BoomBaptst, Ta-Ku, Chief and many, many more all pay homage to the king of the beats with this fantastic free download.
