Yesterday afternoon someone responded to my tweet in regards to #DillaDay events in the states. And in my response to the tweet, I decided to go searching for some of these events on my own. During my search I found some tributes that went down last month (trust me, it didnt make any sense to me, either). So when I was searching through facebook, I came upon this (which threw me for a loop; mind-boggled me).
Yes, J Dilla touched the Philippines, y'all. The tribute is happening next week at the M Cafe with DJs Kristian Hernandez, Ms. Badkiss, Heavy Boogie, and Complex... all representing from different parts of the globe. It's dope to know that somewhere outside the US, there's a country that's paying homage to a legend representing us. Two thumbs up.

This special sit-in is aligned with the BOOMBOX event that's going down later tomorrow evening. This event is more about checking out what the music academy is all about, with special guests Ali Shaheed Muhammad and DJ Maseo speaking. Make sure you arrive early to Elevate in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. There will be treats being served, so I'd advise you to put in your rsvp to this special sit-in. Maybe you'll be interested in joining the academy! There is a limit, so hurry!

This party is dedicated to those who have been loyal fans of the annual Cypress Hill SmokeOut festivals that the group & Guerilla Union has been putting on for quite some time. If you're planning on going to this year's Smokeout Fest, then I suggest you get a move on it and try to win yourself some tickets (view picture), or hurry up and make a purchase. Cypress Hill Smokeout is on March 3rd.

FEBRUARY 2012: CELEBRATING ‘DILLA DAY’ ACROSS THE STATES!
Today marks the first day of Dilla month. Facebook, twitter, and any popular blog that you may be venturing out to check are also trying to put up their sickest tribute post ever. Even last year, Stones Throw had a video contest, and some of the participants made their own 'Dilla Tribute' to his songs. At this point in time, EVERYONE has either heard about him, or finally know who this famous producer is. Unfortunately, because of his untimely demise is the part of the reason why many (like myself, admittedly) knows of the name. Mind you, my story is slightly different in this case.. but isn't it the same for everyone? The important thing is that everyone came to know his music, and regardless of how anyone feels about that (whether you call it 'jumping on the bandwagon' or whatever), the fact of the matter is that with music, people learn to appreciate it when the artist is still here.. or gone.
Since there's going to be tributes all across the states, here's a few tribute parties I found so far:

I was just asking a friend of mine about the HIERO crew the other day lol.
The whole entire Hieroglyphics crew (minus Deltron 3030) will be having a mini-tour covering the NorthWest coast. They'll be covering Seattle, Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Idaho, with each member performing material from their upcoming solo efforts. I hope they make it down south because it's been a minute since we've heard from these legends (wow. apparently I missed out).
