REVIEW: IV The Polymath

.:ALBUM REVIEW: IV The Polymath - New Vs. Old

In the past few years, instrumental hip-hop albums have started to garner widespread attention. Previously, MCs used to seek out beat tapes to practice their rhymes or find producers for their albums. Nowadays, producers can release entire projects that don’t sound out of place without a rapper spitting over the tracks. This tradition of showcasing beats without rappers started back in the mid 90s with the help of artists such as DJ Shadow and his album “Endtroducing.” The latest release to come across my desk in this genre is IV the Polymath’s “New Vs Old.”

ALBUM REVIEW: Hi-Hat Club Vol. 6 – Haus & Garten

hihatclubvol6cover ALBUM REVIEW: Hi Hat Club Vol. 6 Haus & Garten

In the sixth instalment of Melting Pot Music’s Hi-Hat Club releases, the award winning turntablist turned producer DJ Adlib brings the series back to its roots in Cologne, Germany with Haus & Garten.

DJ Adlib - Enter

“Enter” powers up and introduces you to the vibe of this album.  Strong drums, synthesizers and prominent bass are the main ingredients throughout and DJ Adlib utilises them well to create his own style.  In fact the album, like previous volumes, revels and finds many of its strengths in the varied, liberal sounds employed which mean the tracks are far from clear cut hip-hop beats.

MIX: DJ Rahdu – Live at +FE Concert

DJ%20Rahdu%20Live MIX: DJ Rahdu Live at +FE Concert

Very dope mix by DJ Rhadu from Bama Love Soul...soulful vibes to get everyone's friday started on the right foot

Last Thursday Birmingham, Al was graced by a performance by supercrew The Foreign Exchange with DJ Rahdu on turntable duty! I'm happy to say that the soul community showed up and supported a great band that chose to come to our city on their own dime. A good time was had by all and we hope to see you all again soon. Thanks to everyone that helped make the show a success, including the wonderful Jessica Latten (visit her site) who showed up and showed out on camera duty and for always being willing to assist!
Here's the large portion of my set, recorded before the gain somehow got set too high and distorted the sound. Enjoy! - DJ Rahdu
Note: This is not a mix of The Foreign Exchange songs

EVENT (LA): Peanut Butter Wolf: 11/11/11!

PBWOLF1111 EVENT (LA): Peanut Butter Wolf: 11/11/11! CLICK PICTURE TO VIEW FLYER

If you have been to any of Peanut Butter Wolf's (as I would call it) "triple digit date" series within the past six years, you've known that there was always a theme to each party with a unique objective to them. Whether its partying 7 days in the row, the number of DJs being featured on the night of each event, or even the type of music to be played, Peanut Butter Wolf will always give you something different every time.

This year, its going to be eleven DJs using 1100 records to spin from, and the door price will be $11. This event will take place in Eagle Rock at the Center For The Arts establishment. I strongly suggest you get here early before the night takes off.
