REVIEW: IV The Polymath

.:ALBUM REVIEW: IV The Polymath - New Vs. Old

In the past few years, instrumental hip-hop albums have started to garner widespread attention. Previously, MCs used to seek out beat tapes to practice their rhymes or find producers for their albums. Nowadays, producers can release entire projects that don’t sound out of place without a rapper spitting over the tracks. This tradition of showcasing beats without rappers started back in the mid 90s with the help of artists such as DJ Shadow and his album “Endtroducing.” The latest release to come across my desk in this genre is IV the Polymath’s “New Vs Old.”

Sa-Roc - Stair of Siam

Sa-Roc - The Little Space Ships

Here's a lyrical gem from late 2010, that went completely under the radar. Sa-Roc a Washington DC femcee, that is right up there with the most talented underground femcees....Tiye Phoenix, Boog Brown and Jean Grey. Had a listen to the album today, thanks to Chase March. And became an immediate fan.

Sa-roc hails from the southeastern area of Washington DC, a city that’s a mashup of poverty stricken hoods, a strongradical movement, and a fierce loyalty to cultural preservation.
From subject matter ranging from melanin to pyramids, Saroc spits metaphysical ideas over melodic hip hop beats, seeking to fuse knowledge of self with great music.

We mentioned this album last year, but was just listening to it again, and I believe it deserves it's own post, as it seems that it did not get attention needed.....11 tracks and it's a "Name You Price" album, you could get it free or you could support the artists and help them, keeping on making this great music.

About:

A collection of songs (and the instrumentals) recorded and released before Substantial & Marcus D became Bop Alloy. Although, most of you Bop Alloy die-hard fans probably have these songs, you certainly didn't have all of the instrumentals until now. Enjoy.

FREENESS: The Brothers Amor – An Amuse Bouche

skitched 20110218 195757 FREENESS: The Brothers Amor An Amuse BoucheThe Brothers Amor - 1-2 My Language

Really good music by Izaiah and Atman Amor(Abacus and Lord Cromwell)  aka The Brothers Amor. the group hails originaly from Los Olivos California, where they began collaborating in the late 90's.

"An amuse-bouche [amyzbuʃ] is a single, bite-sized hors d’œuvre.[1] Amuse-bouche are different from appetizers in that they are not ordered from a menu by patrons, but, when served, are done so according to the chef's selection alone. These, often accompanied by a complementing wine, are served as an excitement of taste buds both to prepare the guest for the meal and to offer a glimpse into the chef's approach to cooking."

This is going to sound a bit left field at first, but pay attention to the instrumental vibe. "A Memoria" is track number one on the excellent self titled album by "Orelha Negra".

We crownd orelha negra as our Best International act, and once again they deliver in spades with this lyrical version of "A Memoria" featuring Orlando Santos. Beautiful visuals of Lisbon (Portugal) provided by Nebula studios

NEWS: Jermiside & Danny Diggs’ – Middle Classic Gets a Physical Release

skitched 20110108 142951 NEWS: Jermiside & Danny Diggs Middle Classic Gets a Physical ReleaseJermiside - We Here (Kev Brown Remix)

We couldn't agree more with the below...read our album review HERE

About:

Jermiside & Danny Diggs' Middle Classic, one of 2010's most slept on albums, is being re-released on compact disc via HiPNOTT Records. Previously only available in digital format, you can now order a copy to add to your CD collection.

To celebrate the re-release, we are giving away the Kev Brown remix to "We Here", featuring Sabrina Cuie and Donwill of Tanya Morgan.  Previously only available as an iTunes bonus track, this remix produced by Kev Brown is one of three bonus tracks available on the compact disc.

- Donwill (of Tanya Morgan)

"I can whole heartedly say after 5 or 6 front to back listens, this is one of my favorite projects to date.  The mix of Jermiside's sharp bars combined with Danny's chops and snares is just sublime.  Make sure you got space on your ipod for this one."

- Von Pea (of Tanya Morgan)

"Middle Classic is an album that's pretty literal in its message.  Many artists have made music that talks about their struggles growing up and living in the hood, but this album tells the story of a man that grew up middle class in the burbs."
